    Latest Find: Early Spreewerk!

Just wanted to share this one with you all. There are still some good finds out there.

I was trying to kill an hour the other day as I had an appointment at 1pm, and didn't want to drive all the way home, only to come back downtown. So I stopped in the local pawn shop. I haven't been there in a while, and they usually have a lot of guns there, but usually not any WWII era stuff. I did buy one P38 holster there 2 years ago for only $20, but other than that, I've never purchased anything there.

Well, low and behold, there in the case was a WWII P38! I asked to see it, and of course I wasn't too excited, because I figured it would be a MM or RC dipped gun or something like that.
Well, it turns out to be an early no letter block Spreewerk! Serial number, "5559". I take it apart, and it's all matching! I even took the grips apart and looked for an import markings; none! It has the early polished finish on it, and does not have the humped frame. I looked at the grips, and to my surprise it has the correct early AEG grips on it!!!
Overall, a great find, and the price was right as well!

    Enjoy!
    Matt

          Bill,

Thanks Bill. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to Louisville this year! I'll be in Afghanistan then. Sucks since I got a table at the gun show reserved last year! (if anyone needs a table at the gun show, let me know!!!)

But I'll try to make it to some of the other big shows when I get back!

Here are some more pics of the early Spree!

Thanks Guys! Yea, these early Spreewerks are tough to find these days. I only wish it was 5,000 lower, and it would have the "359" proofs on it. But hey, beggers can't be choosers right? I'm very happy with it.

Thanks James! P38s are very addicting! Once you start you can't stop! There are so many makers, years, and variations to keep you searching all the time. I've owned dozens of Spreewerks, but honestly, this is my first Spreewerk I've owned with the high polish finish. Tough to find them.
                      Good luck hunting
