Tropical Luger Holster

I've had this for quite sometime and just got a new camera and decided to try it out.I picked this up from a friend who is a antique dealer,he got it from the estate of a ww2 veteran who served in Italy during the war.When I got it it had a near mint black widow luger which I foolishly sold,but I kept the holster as it was unusual.has anyone ever seen a painted holster before? I have seen P.08 holsters that were painted white. They are attributed to the Battle of the Bulge. Your holster would seem the correct color for the Africa Korp. Nice historic holster.

I was looking closer at your holster and what strikes me is that, while it appears to have been painted tan over black, the thread that I can see appears to be unpainted. If they painted a black holster, it looks like the thread would have been painted also. Can you detect any paint on any of the thread?

Hello!

The white threads are a great sign, black and brown holsters were made with white thread. Brown holsters dyed black by the German's will have the threads also dyed ( tough not to do ) black.

The white paint you talk about is often "Whitewash" that was used on all fronts, I have seen holsters K98's and MP40's whitewashed. The "painted" holster looks good to me and period done.

I do have some un-issued holster's who's threads give off a orange color this also is correct as its the protective coating applied often to the white stitching and with time wears off, very comman in the .32 caliber holster's.

I have some WW1 1918 dated luger holster's that were made from reichwehr holster's taken apart and re-sewn, these late war holsters ( much rarer than other issue ) were then dyed with the threads. Most people do not know about them so they are slow movers but infact they are a RARE holster, they meet the same criteria as "end of war" WWII German items.
