A K98 sling should be fine for this rifle, but I do not think that K98 cleaning rods are interchangeable with these. The circle z marking is pretty common on parts made at the CZ weapons plant in occupied Czechoslovakia, and show up on many German rifles. Your rifle looks salty, but I like it!

i agree with Col.klink, but i have heared that there was a special cleaning rod for the g33/40 and bayonet but it has been descussed to death and there is really no real clear answer, in my rifle i have just a regular K98 cleaning rod that works just find, i beleave it to be a 10 inch

your rifle looks very good, Non matching Bolts is very common with g33/40s also this is a first year production being 1940, the only strange thing that i can see is the sight hood i have never seen one like it?

Thank you guys so far. The sight hood is removeable.

Can somebody tell me why there is a deep cut in the iron and why also in the wood of the G33 behind the bolt. I marked it.

This groove belongs there (identical slotted area on my G33/40) and allows to bolt to travel all the way back...
Just try it! Or is your bolt welded on? Its actually a feature also found on Mauser K98's

Unfortunally its welded on...
Also the bayonet plug part seems to be stuck so I can't get the G33/40 apart for 100%. Meaning I can't check if there are further markings or serial numbers on the barrel and on the wood on the inside.

sight hood is a common vz24 type. this should have its own specific hood usually goes for big bucks!!! about 250.00 USD. there is a guy selling a g33/40 hood and rod on gunboards i think 325 for the set (pricy). might be sold by now.

I hear that the "distance meter" on my G33/40 was post war, can somebody verify that? The distance tabel on my G33/40 indicate the meters in 100, 300, 800 etc, while on a original its indicated in 1, 3, 8 etc I'm told. I can't find anything on the internet I can use as a good reference.
I think my barrel is OK, its stamped 945 and WaA63 and that the bolt is also OK but not number matching with the barrel, the sight hood, bayonet plug and distance meter perhaps shows that this G33/40 was re-used postwar by another country, most likely in the CZ?! I can't check the inside of the G33/40 on the barrel or on the wood stock for further markings and stamps because the wood is to fragile on the top, I'm affriad to break it.

yes, hood only used on VZ-24. a G3340 hood is like a k98 hood but were it attached on the front sight base your have a square notch then flat then a square notch LIKE a Yugo M48 type hood but thinner. were as K98 Hood has a Radius type attaching feature no squares due to teh front sigth having a radius cut. sorrry can post pics here.

your rear sight appears to be the CZ33 which is the NON Nazi version of your rifle. it should have the 1,2,8 NOT 100,200,800 etc type rear sight leaf.

A friend of mine did also some digging and found out that the rear sight was for the VZ33, the Tjech G33/40 type before the Germans took over it in 1938.
He also found out that VZ33 parts where also used for the German made G33/40.

Can perhaps someone verify that?

You have a fairly late 945, 1940. The latest we have observed is the end of the “d” block. Vaughn, as usual, is correct in that the rear sight is off of a vz33. Vz33 sight parts were NOT used on 33/40’s so my strong suspicion is that the barrel is a post war replacement using some vz33 rear sight parts.

Hello, the stock has no markings externally.
So VZ33 parts were not used for German produced G33/40. Thats a shame.

Small, blued bolt parts were, yes. But not sight parts. The stock will also have numbering in the channel.

"Z" in circle exactly means "Zbrojovka Brno" - in german Waffenfabrik Brünn.
