My mistake on ZF 41 , But Brake Cleaner works Excellent on Varnish Removal if You have not tried it You should . And if You have not tried it how would you know if it works or not . Best Regards

Were did I say You did not , I said if You did not You should because it does work Very Well . And have You never read incorrectly and made a mistake . I stated I did make a mistake there .

Like I mentioned and this trick for Varnish or Shellac Removal was told to me by a Very well known Collector who has used Brake Cleaner on many Stocks and He has cleaned a Number of Stocks for me with this method and Three of them Happened to be Late War HT`s and if for any reason I was to think it would have damaged my Stocks it never would have nor would he have used this method . I will say one thing about this method , If the Varnish or Shellac is Very thick than it is better to do by some other process . same person also told this too me as well . So to each his own . Denatured alcohol will remove shellac easily and not touch the stain underneath, often times its shellac and not laquer varnish they used. Denatured alcohol will not remove laquer varnish. Its an easy process and starting point.

I have used denatured alcohol as well, as it also does not damage the glue in the lamination. I had a russian capture once that was classic red shellac, and after using denatured alcohol, I found 3 waffenamts on the stock !
