Hi luca,

The blue primer sealant indicated iron core (S.m.E) ammo. They used green for lead core heavy ball and red for AP. There were other colors and markings (like a stripe) to indicate a specific type of ammo. That way they could tell something about the correct use of the round once it was taken out of the box.
