Help with Broomhandle.. what is it?

Hi All,
I have a chance to buy this Mauser? Broomhandle. the pictures are not the best , I am sorry. I see not serial number except the one by the hammer there may be others but I did not know where to look. I did not see the name Mauser or the WAFFENFABRIK

Anywhere. All I see is some proof marks on the barrel and the word Germany on the side. It comes with a non-matching Holster/stock.

Any help is appreciated, I have to make tell the seller before the weekend.

That is the so called "Bolo" Mauser made to comply with the Treaty of Versailles which limited barrel length of German made pistols to less than 4 inches.
The pistol appears to have had the serial numbers removed, as well as the right side markings. In the U.S. it is illegal to be in possession of a handgun with an altered or removed serial number.
Not my pistol, but this shows where the serial numbers should be on the back of the pistol. The pistol you show appears polished with the parts rounded off in this area.

Thanks John for the answer, that makes the decision very easy! I can't own it if I can't register it. I never even thought about the missing number being a problem. I will have to keep looking.
