Question Regarding Field Stripping M1 Carbine

Is it inevitable that some scratches and/or abrasions will result on the barrel of an M1 Carbine when sliding the barrel band (Type II in my case) off the stock in order to field-strip the weapon?

    Thanks for your time.

yes it is possible, depends on how tight the barrel band is fitted to the barrel. but it is normal to find scratches if it has been broken down before.

The Type I band had a solid band that went around the barrel, and generally fit loose enough that it didn't bind. The Type II and Type III had a split band that could be tightened up, and these are generally a friction fit. If your Carbine has a TII or TIII band you might loosen it, although accuracy may suffer some.

As usual, Johnny is right on the money... !! If you have problems with accuracy, the bbl band is a first, easy place to look for problems...
