    Rare 1903a4 Noske side mount?

Hey guys I snagged a decent built up, not correct 1903a4 sniper last night with the Weaver 330 scope on it, but it came with an additional scope rig, a Noske 2.5 scope on a nicely made but unmarked side mount rig. There is a 418 mark on the inside face of the side plate with the 4 backwards. Its reportedly shown in the Brophy book on 03's which I do not have. Is this simply a commercial Noske setup or an experimental mount for the 1903a4 sniper? Ive read that Noske was one of the optics being considered for the early snipers.

    Thanks,

Springfield Armory tested a number of different scopes and mounts on the 1903 Springfield, of which the Noske was one. To the best of my knowledge the Noske was not considered for the 03-A4.
Has your 03-A4 been drilled and tapped for the side mount?

        Sniper

No its got the correct mountings for the Weaver 330, the guy just started collecting scopes that were on the list of possibles. I saw an auction that ended for one of these mounts for the Alaskan scope, just wondering what the book says about this specific mount,,,commercial or military experimental

          Scope and Mount

Does anyone have "The Springfield 1903 Rifles" by William Brophy? I would appreciate a look to see if this is featured in the book.

I have the Brophy book, but not sure what information you are wanting. The Noske scope is shown being tested on a 1903 Springfield as are several other scopes. No mention of the Noske or mount are mentioned in connection with the 03-A4. The Redfield base was installed on all 03-A4 rifles, the scope was originally the M73B1, and the M81 and M82 along with the M84 were later used along with the original Redfield base and larger rings.
The Noske scope and mount were commercially made, and I have a feeling that is what you have.
