    m1 carbine question

Just picked up a carbine today. Ive got a magazine pouch to fit on the stock. Novice question: How do I fit the pouch on? muscle? or take site off to get it on? thanks. post pics soon

The M1 Carbine magazine pockets with the snap on the back were not originally made to go on the stocks. The snap mates up to the snap on the GI pistol belt. A GI probably found out that he could put it on the stock also, and they have been popular there ever since.
To answer the question, the Carbine has to be broken down to allow the pocket to slide onto the stock.

Take the metal out of the wood, and the pocket will slide on. The sight is not an issue.

As usual, Johnny is giving good advice...

Word of warning. Some of those old pouches have exposed metal on the back - the part that will be pressing against the stock. This will inevitably result in marring and scratching to the wood. A hunk of electrical tape over the offending metal is an easy remedy.

That is the snap intended to fasten it to the pistol belt, not the Carbine stock.

I have rigged up several of my shooter carbines with this and to do it right I removed the snap. Makes for a much better installation and lets the mags fit better. Keeps the snap from digging into the stock too since it's gone.

A small piece of duct tape is what I use.
