    1917 S&W .45 w/ Holster & Vet Provenance

This pistol was purchased from the son of the man that carried it in WWI. When I drew it from the holster, he told me that I was the first to take it out of the holster in some 40 years.

The vet was killed in an automobile crash in the 1930's. So - this is a straight WWI configuration piece.

I'll include just a small portion of the scanned document copies I have, including his WWI photo.

I plan on selling this, but would appreciate any comments before I sell it.

    Thanks!

This gentleman started as a 1st Lt. in WWI. There is documentation from the family (though I don't have it) that he was part of the Expeditionary Force sent to seek out Poncho Villa in 1914.

Here is a WWI era photo and some of the documents.

He was attached to the 103rd F.A. 26th ID

          Last two pics...

Like I said, there is a lot of documents that I have copies of... but this should add some flavor to the pistol.

            Tom,

That's a nice rig from WWI, mainly because of the documents that link it to the veteran. I'm really impressed with the gun's condition as it spent so many years inside the holster (as reported by the veteran's son). Usually, keeping the gun for long periods inside a leather holster is not recommendd as it is harmful to the gun's finish.

My "guestimation" would be something around 1,200 mostly because of the documents. Maybe more.
However, as I do not live in US, it would be nice to see what the others opinions.

            Greetings,

            Douglas.

Very impressive. Given the condition of the hardware and the existence of the paperwork, I don't think you'd be out of line asking ~1500. Someone who specializes in collecting these would probably jump.

Thanks Guys. I plan on selling it for much less. It's more attractive when there's still room in it for the buyer.

I'll be listing it soon (unless my local friend wants it).
