RSHA/SS PPK at Gun show today

Waiting for gun show this week decided to print up Matt Webers listing on PP and PPK serial numbers to put in my references JUST IN CASE. Sunday rolls around and this guy walks in and sells us a nice M1 carbine in WWII leg bag and pulls out a commercial PPK in a DRGM/AKAH made holster. I see the K suffix and think NO WAY! I grab the cheat sheets and Im hoping this is one, either that or just a normal K suffix. I paid the guy $750 and its for inventory but I would like to know either way. Mag is the spare the serial numbered one is lost to time. The guy is home looking for it, says the relative took this off a German Doctor of unknown branch of service during the war. Serial number is 217726K, no waffens of course just the crown N

    Thanks guys,,,and Matt!

      Steve,
SS/RSHA Issue in that serial number range would be "K under". In addition, the serial number would be on both frame and slide. Type 3. Sorry.
      Regards,
      Steve

Good enough! Thanks. Wish I had taken laptop to be able to look at the photos on the pinned thread. Still not a bad pistol

          Steve,
Still a nice example of an early PPK and holster. Well worth the money and more. You don't need to take a computer to the show. Buy the Black Book. It has a description of each type with serial number ranges for both PP and PPK and photos of each PPK type as well as a list of nearly 1300 serial numbers complete with documents to confirm issue of every single one.

                    Steve,

Nice find! It's not an SS issued gun (as Steve mentioned above, it would have the "K" under the serial number on both frame and slide, as well as magazine spine), but still a nice example of a high polish commercial, with a lovely holster!! I think you did well.

Nice to hear that you're using the information provided. I'd like to thank Steven Stepan and the guys over on the P38 forum for providing that info for us all!

Ive got great tables at the show and showed the seller both the book value and the possible SS implications and we haggled a bit on price as I didnt want to lose the purchase so we are both happy! Thanks guys!

                        SS PPKs

                        Matt,
Thank you for your kind remarks. Your posts here and the increasing circulation of Black Book has resulted in a heightened awareness of the SS guns. More have been found and unfortunately several counterfeits recently. But I believe knowledge is power and that knowledge is proliferating rapidly.
                        Regards,
                        Steve

                          Steve,

I totally agree; knowledge is power, and I hope to spread the word more about these Walthers.

I just received my copy of Steve's book - it is very nice and contains great information.

I am keeping my fingers crossed, hoping to stumble upon one of these PPK's at some point in the course of my collecting life. They are out there and, eventually, I am confident that one will come my way. Heck - remember 6-8 months or so ago when one of them appeared on this forum? The guy had no idea what he had until we told him. If I recall correctly, the guy took it to a collectors' show in Nashville, TN and sold it to someone to whom he had granted a first right of refusal, prior to learning of the RSHA/SS history of the gun. I've always been curious as to how that transaction turned out (it sounded like he was pretty much going to give the gun away, RSHA/SS history notwithstanding).

In any event, I want to express my appreciation to Steve, John Pearson, Joe Wotka, Dieter Marschall and all the other collectors/researchers who have worked hard to gather this information and share it with the rest of us.

                            Alan
