    Question about a Luger

I have been looking at a 1914 9mm Erfurt Artillery Luger and the barrel has either been sleeved or spliced. How big of a deal is that on these old lugers? I know a serious collector would not be interested but if it was cheap enough would it be worth it? It also comes with a new long barrel. I thought around $600 wouldn't be a bad deal since it is a Artillery model. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I WONDER WHY IT MAY HAVE BEEN SLEEVED? Old Cleat doesn't have that one up in salida , does he? I'd say ask for 10% off for dealers , and then get us some shots to look at, or better yet, snag some shots first, then show us prior to ... but then you might go back and it may be gone if you dilly dally, so it doesn't sound too bad for the buck . So what the barrel situation is, i'm unsure, might be unusual or a 9mm to .30 conversion sleeve , but I'd say even a beater would be worth 6 C notes. (even as a shooter) (can you taste it yet?)

Erfurt Artilleries are the rarest of the breed. Only made them that one year. Even a bad one would be worth the $600 you mention. With these uncommon items, many have been bought and sold without even looking at the bore. If it's all original, with the original bbl, I would say six hundred is a bargain.
The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

While there were less Erfurt LP.08's than DWM LP.08's, the 1914 dated DWM pistol is much rarer than the Erfurt.

Johnny, If I can bump in, where would a DWM miltary 1915 fit in, common?
          Thanks!!

It seems that the 1915 date LP.08 will generally bring 10 to 20 percent over the later dates, with the higher percentage on the really nice examples.
This is an early 1915 pistol.

To answer your original question. I would say a relined 1914 Erfurt LP-08 would be worth at least $1500 assuming everything else is original.

I have seen many a reblued artillery Luger go for that amount.

Just make sure the barrel is original. Many people know that 1914 Erfurt is rare, and take a common one and simply put a longer barrel on it. I have seen a few 1914 Erfurts with DWM artillery barrels on them!

If it's real, it's definately worth $600!!! But if it's not, then I'd walk away from it, as it's probably a franken-monster.

The 1914 Erfurt P.08 is a very scarce pistol in itself, and it didn't have the receiver relief cut for the sight.

Jan Still estimates production of the 1914 Erfurt LP.08 at 23,000 and P.08 at 7,000. Anyone that rebarreled a 1914 Erfurt P.08 to a LP.08 messed up.

                          Johnny,

That's what I'm saying! I've seen it though. In fact I used to own one, just because I didn't have an LP08 at the time.
