Unknown item found in K98 cleaning kit

I need your guys help. I recently picked this nice CNX cleaning kit up out of the woodwork. It contains a late war pull chain and a nice bakelite oiler. Also, in the kit are two M1 Garand cleaning brushes with horse hair. I assume the vet liked the German kit better and put his Garand brushes in it. When I inspected the kit further, I found one last item that has me stumped. I'm sure one of you guys know exactly what it is. It looks like some kind of a firing pin with a # "3" marked on it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Mark

Are you saying that it is a firing pin from an MG30?
