Quite possibly a good one but I would need to examine more closely to say for sure.

The eagle stamped on the outside of the sling is fake, so I would question the sling itself.

I'm not sure I agree.....We've all run into items that have after-market "enhancements" that were added, in order to tweak a possible sale.

Sling looks good to me, and if the stamp IS in fact, fake, I'd be inclined to call the sling original, but messed with.

                    Just my opinion.....
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.....

Mike, having read your wonderful book I will yield that you are much more knowledgeble than I but I will point out that my opinion was based on the observation that the hardware appears to be original with legitimate wear and tear, the leather has the correct criss-cross pattern with what appears to be legitimate wear and tear. The color looks good and the thread correct.
The stamp is what concerns you and I must agree that I have never seen a stamp like that in that position but I cannot bring myself to poo-poo the entire sling simply because of it. Denny

Thanks for all the comments so far, all veiws are appreciated, Did not see the eagle till I had bought the sling and by what I had read it did seem wrong for a late war one.
Posting a picture taken in daylight showing the overall wear.

                          hi,
although this "grate surface" is a bid strange to me, I would also say that the sling is 100% original ww2 . The eagle is post-war added of course
