    My P38 please help..

    Hi Guys,

I am absolutely not into these guns at all, although I do like em very much.

I have this P38 in my possesion for about 7 years now and I never took the time to get myself familiair with those things. The thing is: Here in Holland you are not even allowed to have a working pistol.

Could someone help me out with the stuff you can tell me about it. When was it produced perhaps etc? What's the value?

On the other hand there is one funny thing. I did some little research because I was told that on top of the pistol there are four screws and I don't see one P38 with those similair screws.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Bob

The pictured firing pin & indicator cover as well as the rear sight are not original P38 parts.

          Bob,

This is a P38 made by Spreewerke Metallwaffenfabrik. According to a production chart made by forum member Jan Balcar, your pistol was made in September, 1943.

Your gun is a matching piece, with original finish. Unfortunately, as said above, the top slide cove and rear sights are not original to the gun, which detracts its collectable value. On the other hand, as these are not numbered parts you may be able to find an original set to return the gun to its original configuration.

That is a really neat modification.

Older pistols or those that have had unnecessary dis assembly of that area some times spontaneously self disassemble.
small parts go into orbit and are lost.

Thanks for the reply guys. So could we say that the pistol was damaged and it has been repaired? And that has been done probably post war, because during the war the parts were probably available?

Could you guys say something about the value as well? taking in mind that I am in Holland and it is prohibited to have such a piece.

The little plate with the 4 screws is normally held in place by spring tension.

                Sometimes this wears out.

Some genius has drilled and tapped it so it is screwed down and will never fly off.

                A neat idea.
                I use tape on mine.
