    G98/40 New addition...

My newest addition, these sure are neat rifles...as I also understand it's harder to find them w/o the front sight hood as well. Does anyone know how common a JHV42 is compared to the other years of manufacture? 43,44? Thanks, Chris...

Note the distinctive round shape to the sight hood as opposed to inverted U shape of K98 sight hoods....

Hi Chris, they are very neat indeed! The front sight hoods can sell for quite a bit of money by themselves. I have no idea what the production numbers were, and I am hardly an expert on these, but I have never noticed the earlier rifles to be less common than the later rifles. They are all hard to find. I hate to be the one to say this, but shouldn't the bolt have a letter suffix to the serial number that matches the one on the receiver? I don't see it in the picture. Hopefully, I am wrong about that.

                  Chris,

Awesome find! I've been looking for one of these for a while now, with no sucess! Great looking 98/40.
I beleive the 44 dated ones are the rarest ones. But any all matching one is hard to find these days.

                  Matt

It should have the letter. Nice rifle, hope the letter is there.

Ya it should have the letter block. But really the font of the numbers looks proper comparison to the others. Heres 2 photos of my all matching 43. The hardest to find is the 44.

My photography skills are lacking at times, if you look underneath the 3 on the bolt body you can faintly make out the alphabetic stamp for the serial block. I'll try to take a better one later. This was part of an estate cleanout...the family didn't want ANY of the guns are militaria items. They were literally given to my friend, who sold the rifle to me for a very decent price. Right now I'm probably not going to even thing about parting with it, but if I ever do I'll reply back to my PM's in order . Thanks, Chris....

                            Nice catch.
Not so easy to find this beauty.
                            Congrats

Very, very glad to hear it! That's a nice one to have at any price. Cheap is even better. Free was an unbelievable deal for your friend!

It seems like I'm always the person who meets someone who just gave away the old military junk they inherited, it would be nice to be the recipient instead!
