    MG42-lafette question

    hi folks ,can somebody tell me what the long horizontal "ridge" is for on the right side of the recoil table ? i never see something attached to it on pictures or in museums ,but it must have a reason...

    It's not for attaching anything externally but inside it allows for the parallel linkage for part of the trigger mechanism.
    There are two pins going top to bottom that support the ends of each linkage.
    Why there is a piece of sheet steel on the outside I am not sure as it doesn't really facilitate any sort of inspection or repair procedure that can't just as easily be done by extracting the cradle from the outer support.
