    Mp41

    Hi Guys, I would welcome any information about these guns. We don't seem to have talked much about them before?

    The books I have don't really give much detail about them.

    The only thing I know about MP41 is that it is a combination of an MP40 and MP28...

        Don't forget they're also select fire too. Does anyone have a wartime pic of one in use? Supposedly the SS liked them but I have yet to find a pic of anyone using one.

          Gene,

          There is a very famous photo of a Luftwaffe paratrooper carrying one during the battle of the bulge. He was riding on top of a King Tiger, number "222". He is standing right next to the gun barrel. You can clearly see the MP41 slung around his neck.

          The MP41 was made by C.G. Haenel. Hugo Schmeisser ran this factory. He developed a new Machine pistol which combined the stock from his MP28 with the barrel, receiver, and magazine of the MP40. He also used the telescoping spring tube from the MP40. The MP41 also had selective fire. Very few MP41s were built due to the fact that Hugo Schmeisser was taken to court after he infringed on Vollmer's patent by using the MP40s telescoping tube in the design. The project was later cancelled. It is reported that most of the MP41s went to police units. However, I have a friend that has one, and it is military proof marked! Not police marked! Also the photo that I described above proves that it was used by the military forces in combat!
          My friend often wonders if his MP41 is the same one shown in that famous photo? Unfortunately there is really no way to prove it. Wouldn't that be cool though?

              They are rare, all with 37 proofs.. There is one in my home town registered in 68 by the vet who brought it home he took it from a Paris, France police station..I have shot it and it shoots very well, little faster than a MP40.. It did not have a magazine and I gave him a MP41 magazine for it, same as a MP38/40 but marked Haenel Schmeisser MP41 on the side..wfg

                  There's another famous photo showing SS General Stroop in the Warsaw Ghetto during the fighting. Among the troops around him is a police officer in a leather coat holding an MP41 skyward. If someone has a copy of this photo please post it.

                    Hi Guys, here is the photo that Matt mentioned. I have seen this pic in umpteen books over the years and never noticed it. I have cropped it down just to show the FJ with the MP41.

                        Hi Junior, the book you need is "The Battle of the Bulge; Then & Now" published by "After the Battle". It shows hundreds of photos taken in the Ardenne in 1944 and how the locatons look "today" from the same view. (But the book is now quite a few years old) It is a must if you are interested in this battle.
