    Rare WW2-nazi-browning-hi-power

    http://www.deactivated-guns.co.uk/de.../prod_885.html

This is being listed by a well known seller of deactivated weapons.

It looks wrong to me but could it be the real deal?

    Looks all wrong to me.

Could have started out as a German pistol I suppose but it has been re-finished.

The serial number and "FN Browning HP" is wrong - weren't they known as GP for Grand Puissance.

One to be avoided I think.

Generally they have a lot of interesting guns - I know I've bought quite a few !

    Regard

Just wow. I wasn't expecting the stunningly bad bill-board engraving done to this over buffed and re-blued example. And at that price!

Cheers Richie that was pretty much what I thought

It probably lost it's serial number in the buffing process (along with all the slide markings) and was given a serial number higher than the number of High Powers procured by Germany. Don't use a serial number already used, and it can't be a duplicate. The WaA acceptance mark on the magazine looks highly suspect.

Given the reply/explaination I wouldn't be comfortable buying anything from this company

                  SENT

                  "Hi,
Had a discussion with people in the know and you may have been "had"

                  Points they make are
                  Re blued
Shining and buffing is likely to have removed most markings
                  Slide engraving is wrong
There is a possibility the s/n has been re applied and is too high
Waffenampt on the mag is suspect

They think it was probably a nazi pistol but has been reburbished and "over egged"

                  REPLY

                  "Hi XXXX

All of what you have said was obvious to us and any other collector.

This pistol was most probably reissued post WWII or was someone's
                  private pistol, hense the refinish.

It was priced hundreds of pounds less than an original example because
                  of this.

But the fact remains that it was a Nazi side arm and has history.

So it's not rare, and the seller admits to knowing it's not rare

Another case of buy the gun not the story

Actually it is rare - there probably isn't another one like it in the world !

Where in the e-mail do they admit that it isn't rare ?

BTW - the way I am biased because I am comfortable buying from them .

The actual wording from their site is

                      "Product Information
Deactivated Rare WWII Nazi Browning Hi-Power Pistol. Stunning example with crisp clear Nazi WaA stamps on frame , slide, barrel and magazine, with all matching numbers. During WWII after occupying Belgium in 1940, German forces took over the FN plant and production of the Hi-power. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
                      To order Call 01547 529093 or 05603 416575 or email sales@deactivated-guns.co.uk."

I too can play with words and their meanings
                      Cheers
