    BYF-44 98K Mauser

I found this at an auction last week. I won it for $800 otd. The auction house description said it has a tight crack in the forearm and a dark bore. However, the only crack I can find is a very, very, small crack in the handguard so I think they said forearm when they meant handguard. The supposedly dark bore cleaned to like new with just a few passes with a bore brush. It also was missing the forward action screw, but I have a replacement on the way. I'm pretty darn happy with it! I was just lucky to some extent, but it also goes to show the value of actually attending an auction and seeing the items for yourself.

Very correct rifle and fair price also. These day´s it´s very hard to find a full matching K98. Good investisment for the future.

Looks good so far. Take it apart and make sure the stock matches.

Is the lower band (the sling band) matching? It appears to be a milled early war part on your rifle which would be incorrect - it should be a stamped and welded band. I know it is possible to find "old stock" parts on later rifles, so I'm not saying it has to be wrong; I'm just asking if you checked to see that the number matches. Either way, its an excellent rifle. I know of one similar that just sold for over 1200.
