I have owned this numbered byf 42 P.08 rig for a number of years. It came out of a WWII vet's collection (he collected Lugers after the war). It's a full military proofed gun in the "b" block. Note that the pistol's serial number is etched into both of the correct fxo plastic based magazines and the skate key, and is pressed into the inside flap of the "bcb41" marked holster.
Opinions I have gotten on this rig range from possible police issue or that the numbering was done post war. As you can see the numbering is very neatly done. I was told that numbered byf 42 rigs were covered in the AutoMag newsletter once but I have never been able to find this reference.
Any information or opinions on this one?
