    WW2 CYQ P38 A suffix

    Hi,
I have a CYQ marked P38 with a serial number 30XX and the letter a suffix. In addition, there are waffenampt marks with the numbers 88 stamped below. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what year this P38 was made? Also, could this P38 have been made by Mauser? I was told that the numbers 88 would indicate that. Every number on this gun match. It does display a good deal of rough machining. Thank you in advance for your response.
    Mike

CYQ is the code for the manufacturer named Spreewerk Metallwaffenfabrik. The "a" suffix indicates early production, February 1943, according to a production table by forum member Jan Balcar.

            Hi Douglas,
Thank you very much for giving me this information. By the way, does this add any additional interest or value to these P38's?
            Thanks again,
            Mike

              E/88

Look at your magazine(s) as well. There may be an eagle over 88 on the spine close to the bottom. That would indicate Spreewerke acceptance. Magazine collection is a hobby unto itself.

                Hi,
The magazine actually has an eagle and what looks like the number 359 stamped below. I guess I don't have a match.
                Thanks for your response,

opinions sought on early cyq P38

Hello again , Looking for info -opinions on a March 43 cyq I just bought . Been digging and the pistol in this old thread is a dead ringer for mine . Mine has the same grips and mag as this one . I see other early ones with these grips also . Right grip is marked P 1528 over 2 and the upper mark has 38 above and Z3 below the logo . lLeft grip is marked P 1529 over 4 and the upper mark is 38 above and Z3 below the logo . Mag has p.38 and WaA359 . Machining is much nicer than later ones . Any other info needed please let me know and I can try pics but I really struggle with close ups . Locking block only has 777a and the other numbers are 7777a . Her grandfather got this in early 45 in Germany so it had 2 years service to have stuff happen to it and that is what I am curious about . Thanks Dave

Your magazine is for a Walther made P.38.
