The Price is Right? BYF 41 k98 with "Battle Damage"

    Hi guys!

Yesterday, I went to a festival in Arkansas, and while we waited for the steaks to sizzle and the smoke to rise, wmy fmaily and I decided to go shopping. While my ma indulged herself in the antique stores, my dad and I hit every open gun store. While at a particular one, I noticed a lot of military guns laying on the walls and such. All the M1 carbines were import marked, as with its one Ithaca 1911 for $1000 , but the M1s and the carbines seemed to be overpriced. However, in one dark corner lied two nice $600 1903s.

Looking at 'em, I put them back and noticed a familiar Deutsch rifle on the wall. It was a K98k. Looking through it, I noticed all parts matched, with the exception of the bolt. However, it had beautiful bluing, the exception being the area beneath the rear site. The front site hood and cleaning rod was missing as was a huge chuck of wood beneath the front guard. Other from that it was a nice "battle used rifle with patina and all markings and cartouches intact. The question is what's it worth? It has a $399.00 price tag.

    Thanks!

I would have offered them $350 with tax included, and I be they would have taken you up on it. As long as the metal had its original finish, the stock was un-sanded, and the bore was decent, I think it sounds like a semi-good deal. Not having seen the stock damage, it is hard to make a judgment, but I like battle-damaged rifles a whole lot.

Yep, battle rifles sure do show a lotta character!

Ironically, I did ask if the price was firm, which they said yes. The young guy said it was a Waffen SS used rifle...because there were swastikas on the metal.

But he was also the same one who as soon as I said the 1911's been imported, he said "No, it was made here!" Then I showed him the stamp. But other from that, he was alright. The older man was quite nice and prolly woulda taken an offer.

I might try to call them up to offer on the rifle, again with a good Russian Capture I have.

Wish me luck and best to y'all!

Yes sir, that's the one! Let me say this, I'd rather go than the Bass Pro in Shreveport any day!

Haha, that, the antiquing, and the car show were the main reasons! The steaks....were, how do we say here, spitze! Fifteen bucks for a potato, iced tea, salad, dessert and of course, the steak...a deal no one could resist! Amazing stands and music, too. Even enjoyed looking ath the "Pets on Wheels." Looking at the iguanas for sale reminds me of the one that's always consuming my hair... only theirs' are eight to nine years younger.

Did you go this year, Mr. Peppers?

Haven't been in several years. The wife use to display her watercolors in the art exhibit, but the festival has gotten so big it was a hassle to get her paintings up on the courthouse square.
The young man that own's Steve's is Steve. Tall, slender, black hair, and wears glasses. When he first went in business he kept me busy telling him what he had just traded for. Picked up a few nice items there over the years, and sold him a few nice pieces (which I wish I had kept).

Indeed the area surrounding the court yard is too small for a large display. Heck, the car show was smaller than the one that happened in Shreveport two weeks ago, and it was in a Church yard!

Regarding Steve's, I didn't see him that time around. Do they take partial trades or anything of the like?
