    K98 markings

I have a 1939 K98 Vet pick up I would like to understand the markings on. Firstly this rifle has seen some hard service since 1939. The butt was cut off so the soldier could bring it home, somewhere, I believe period, the magazine has been replaced as the sn underneath doesn't match any other number. The only stamping on the bolt is the letter A. And it is stamped on the butt. Well look at some pics. Any ideas or comments welcome. Oh yea, this porr old fellow sat in an attic for 55 years with a Frommer Lilliput pistol an NSKK dagger and the soldiers own 1911 Colt 45. When he showed them to his wife, she told him "I never want to see those again". He repaired the butt stock brought them to the attic and there they sat.
