    http://www.phoenixinvestmentarms.com/878mauser39.htm
Am i missing something here or are lugers really this expensive. I remember being offered a rig two years ago for 1100 dollars. Id kinda like to get one, but I wouldnt pay 4 grand for a pistol.

To put it simple: people pay for its mythical status.
    Do not overlook this "detail".

So if I want a luger I will have to shell out 4 grand for a pistol that is almost everywhere? Ive seen tons of them at gun shows (havent been to one since the show of shows and didnt really pay attention to lugers, but I did see one for 1800). What do you guys think, is this just an overpriced gun, or is this a fair price.

Good to hear that they arent usually this expensive. I paid alot of attention to prices on lugers a few years ago (2007 to 2008), I usually went by gun show prices, they were 900-1200. Would 1300 be a fair price for a matching luger (byf and S42 lugers).

                Lugers

Yes that's about right, if the mag. is numbered to it that will add quite a bit but not double. I picked up a 95% Black widdow with 2 extra mgs. and an extra set of stock panels for $1400 last month in Albuquerque. I'm a dealer myself and I always ask more than I expect, it gives me room to lower the price and make a deal but he's way high. I guess more power to him if he can get it.......

Price depends on Model usually DWM are the most common, Krieghofs are rare an cost several thousands also the model has to be taken into consideration ( artillery, navy...swiss are also expensive! You can get a shooter below $700 I got this all matching nickel plated for $650 shoots fantastic!!

Id kinda like to get a WWII era P08 (would be open to a WWI P08, but would much rather a WWII one) that is at least 90% with no pitting. I dont really mind a mismatched magazine, but it must be matching.

Any tips on what to look out for?

                        Josh,
There are Lugers, and there are LUGERS.... If price is an issue, get an RC. Any mismatched will go for 700-800.

Im going to most likely wait till the show of shows next year when I have enough money and see if I can get a non import. I didnt even know that there were RC Lugers available. But Id rather have a matching one, the most I would be able to pay for one would be 1500 by next year.

You Aint lookin that hard i say, and money is inflated by over 10x(wich means it aint worth ...you know). Right now is one of the best times in history to get a good cheap luger, so get out there....sniff around....and score a few before they are all gone. They are only expensie because YOU don't have one...BBBBBRRRRRTTTTT!!!!!! i saw someone on the internet was planning on remanufacturing the .45 luger...you might want a new version, if thats the case, i know id buy a .45 luger even if new made. Like the guy who used to convert the .30 m1 carbines to .45......so someday come back to this thread and let us know when you have joined the club.

Lugers look cool and have a certain mystique to them, but frankly I think the P.38 is a better shooting pistol.
