K 98 High Turret Sniper Question

Were any High Turret Snipers just soldered wihout the screws being put in the mount holes?

    #2
I'm no expert but Id be suspicious if somebody tried to sell me "an original high turret rifle" with mounts that are soddered into place.

can somebody back me up on this?

      Turrets

High and Low turrets were soldered and screwed into position.

thanks,I have a High Turret repo that was done by Waffen Arms, now out of bussiness I think. It was a RC redone .Looks beautiful.Since it was a RC I had no issues with this being done to it.The reason I asked was because it is soldered but was never drilled and tapped hence no screws also.Dont know what happened because the rifle was well done in my opinion and i have heard he does great work . I am thinking of selling it and trying to gather some info should someone ask.

When the waffen arms closet nazi was in KY he had a good smithy. But he moved to colorado ( thankfully 0 and the old hillbilly smith passed away shortly after that.
The smith was a fair guy to talk to but he was always looking for certain german rifles to "scope up". He badgered me for some time to find him a decent gew98 for him to scope out - not a mismatch beater but a collector quality example. I had to politely tell him no farking way.

actually i want to hijack a lil and ask

why were they soddered? if i make a repro and don't do this will the mounts stay on properly?

                Turret

So that the mount wouldnt vibrate loose from recoil, first soldered then screwed in place

i see...Imo would it be necessary do do this then on a repro? or is it just extra insurance for a combat rifle?

                    Hi Turret

I think you are comparing apples to oranges, the quality workmanship of a WWII German sniper rifle verses a repro. Ensuring that the mounts didnt work loose during battle conditions and repeated recoil and making a rifle that looks good.
