Arisaka W/Box and Papers!!!

Hey guys,
I have been looking for a nice Arisaka with capture papers for some time now. While I was on the phone with my FFL dealer this afternoon, he told me about this old Arisaka that he had had for years with the box it had been shipped in. I didn't think he was selling it, but rather telling me about it. Much to my enthusiasm he said it was for sale!

I ended up driving over and picking it up this afternoon. I'll get better pictures with tomorrow's sunlight.

I believe it was shipped from San Fransisco, but I'm not done looking it over.

There is quite a bit of writing on the box

After looking, the return address reads:

San Fran is probably the APO address it was shipped home through from the Pacific. Love the box, that sort of thing adds soooo much more to the history of the piece!

You have a nice transitional gun with a good history to it, the stock color looks a little funny to me but it doesnt look like its been sanded or refinished, probably just the lighting. Nice dog!!! BTW, where are you in Ohio? If you live close to me I could take a look at it and tell you all you need to know about it.

I am located in Newark about 20 miles east of Columbus.

I too thought the stock looked a little funny. Not sure if it's been sanded, but it definitely looks different than my other Jap rifles.

I really like the box. I can't count the number of times I've visited with PTO vets who acquired such rifles on Occupation Duty in Japan, with the vets telling me about how they "constructed a wood box" for their rifle and mailed it home. None of these vets, however, still had the shipping box when I got to know them some 50+ years later, so it is nice to see an example of what they were talking about.

where have all the japanese rifles gone.

my take on it is as follows. very nice looking rifle. used to be these were looked over as japanese rifles and everybody wanted a k98. the two piece stock seam turned me off and i assumed they were inferior in quality. now somewhat better educated i would love to have a correct original rifle with monopod, dust cover and matching bayonet. i have seen only one in last ten years and it is not for sale at any price by current owner. i see no correct examples on gunbroker or gunsamerica that are worth the asking price. what i am interested in seeing is how much the japanese stuff shoots up in value now that the new band of brothers series is coming out about pacific war. i bet these go through the roof overnight, and i am seeing that already! my job calls for an annual visit to a guys house and in the attic is a type 99, with dust cover , and monopod and bayonet. great shape, little surface rust starting. full mum. and the grandads army knife with it. he was ww2 pacific vet. i was supposed to buy it but then they decided to keep for kids? now i have to see it every year and can't buy it. its torture, but i did get them to take out of attic and clean and oil to stop surface rust.don't see these at the shows here anymore.

My uncle lives up in Newark, we go up there quite a bit, I am in Washington county.
