    Bren Mk1 help

    Hi,

    Please help.

I am trying to remove the butt from my Mk1 Bren gun. I have removed most of the metalwork and now stuck on the last part.

I cannot figure out how to remove the buffer tube (top hole in butt).
I can see what appears to be two small ears (kind of like a wing nut) about 1" inside and assume this unscrews and releases the tube and therefore the butt from the bottom half of the body, however it won't budge and I am not sure if this is what is holding the buffer tube and butt.

If anyone has any advice as to how to remove the butt I would be grateful.

    Regards
    Mike

Thanks for the pictures; unfortunately this does not help me remove the wooden butt (for refinishing) from the metalwork. I have spent a lot of time searching the net for an answer, (thought Google was the answer to everything), and the only thing I could find is a diagram used as a background.

I think part 18 screws on to part 20 and secures the butt. I am seeking confirmation before I go in heavy handed and give part 18 a serious turn.

      Pictures are great anyway, thanks.

        Sorry I misunderstood your question.
I cannot find any help anywhere, not even in my German manual for the Brno CZ26 and 30.

I have no instructions more than simple field stripping like this.

To remove butt plate and return spring Mk 1. Butt:

Depress the butt plate catch(19) and remove the butt plate(20) .
This above is from the published info I have in a manual

From this point on you need a BREN combination tool to strip down any further and I don't know where you could try to get one.

                Thanks guys,

Refering to the part numbers in my previous link,

                http://www.pbase.com/mrclark/bren_gu...tock&view=tree

I have alredy removed the but plate (8 by depressing part 11). Pushed and twisted
(1/4 turn), part 16 releasing 14, 15 & 19. All other items removed and I am about to undo part 18 from part 20. It looks like the end of part 20 is threaded though not clear and the buffer plate and spring, (not shown) fitted to the other end of part 20 is very strong and I do not want it to fly apart and have difficulty trying to reassemble.

I have made a tool from a 16mm spark plug socket (slotted the end to fit over the little lugs). Guess I will have to go for it and see what happens.

One again, thanks for your replies, it is much appreciated.

                All the best.

                Mike
