    Snail drum

    Hello all,

I have attached a pic of a snail drum my friend purchased this past weekend at a local gun show along with a 'G' dated super nice P08, repro woodstock and original 1943 brown P08 holster.

Does anyone know what these marking on the snail drum mean and what is the going rate for snail drums?

    Thanks,

Post this in Imperial and you'll get an answer in no time. I've been looking for a deal on a snail drum for sooooo long. My artillery w/shoulder stock is just begging for a snail.

        Maybe I can help.

It means Schutzpolizei Oppeln, I.Kommandatur, 3. Bezirk, Waffennummer 59
I don't really know, how to translate the "Schutz" in "Schutzpolizei" correctly, but it was a branch of the local police at the town of Oppeln, first command, third district to the internal weapon number 59, perhaps a machine pistol (A Bergmann MP 18/1).

Funny thing: I have a stick magazine for MP 18 or MP 28 of the Schutzpolizei Oppeln, I. Kommandatur.. Perhaps my mag was the converted type of your former MP18 with snail drum, which was converted for a stick mag???

That's a great piece, police marked TM08's are rare. Six years ago I bought them for $500 and sold them for $700. Three years ago I bought them for $700 and sold them for a grand. Now I just buy them. They are being offered retail for $1200 and up.
