    PPK -- SS Issue?

    Everyone,

I started a separate thread earlier today on six guns I plan to take to Nashville this weekend for a militaria show as a collector/dealer is interested in buying them.

The one which has sparked the most interest in the other thread is this PPK.

One or two thread contributors have said it is "SS issue" and this has only come to light in recent times. I bought this piece back in the early 1990's.

Can anyone here shed some more light on this -- and how is it ID'ed to have been issued to SS personnel. Serial numbers? This is a Crown N.

    Best regards,

    Mike

              Mag

As you can see, mag is matching -- number is on spine of mag. Condition is self-explanatory from the images.

Feel free to email me: mike@mheuer.com

Let me emphasize, however, the pistol is not for sale at the moment. I have given the guy meeting me in Nashville "first refusal" on it -- but I need price advice from you all as well so I get it right.

If we do not do a deal, it will return with me to home base.

                Mike,
The mag is serialed in the fashion of the SS PPks. Here's a link to one on GB that sold a little while ago. There is at least one Book on recorded serial numbers of known SS PPKs. If you go to the P38forum, PPK section there are several threads on this subject. I'll post a couple of photos for you of one that my best friend owns. There serial number's with 1000 serials of yours.

                Glad you got one!!

I have always been under the impression the crown N is a nitro proof. IMO ..I do not think there is any way to link this gun to the ss, unless you have the records from the dealer in germany as to serial numbers linked to who purchased it originally. Some police pistols had proofs linking them to polizei. Its a nice item, and the only other thing you might do is write to its manufacturer, and see if there are any records available on the serial number range (K), or not. Like some american firms, records may times have been destroyed by fire, but that will take time. I would be more apt to assume it may have been an SA, but if it doesnt sell, then see what you can find out , as i dont think youre going to get an answer here. I have a book somewhere that lists all spies weapons serial numbers who operated in the usa during the war, but i believe they were lugers. Good luck. I once had a walther ppk taken from an ss man, and it was just a pre war pistol with a brown holster. there were no ss markings or anything special about it, except what the vet told me who took it personally.

There's a book that's been written and reprinted by a gentleman on the P38 forum. His name is Dieter Marschall. His book is full of data on SS pistols that was captured by US forces and stored in the National Archives. The books name follows. "SS Walther PP/PPK 1939-1944" by Görtz and Marschall . I believe it's possible to order one from the "sticky" on the PPK portion of the website..

That one appears to have a lot of mileage.

The reference was to the two auctions it had been through and not sold.
