A Source for Lugers

Can anyone give me a few suggestions on dealers or collectors who sell Lugers? A friend is looking for preferably a Third Reich era piece.

I just never see them on the e-stand here.

Guys on the luger forum often have a few posted.
Gunbroker is a crapshoot.

There are dealers, but I won't recommend any because of predatory pricing these days.

Be careful, there are many shenanigans in the world of Lugers.

Many thanks for the excellent advice. Do you have a link for the Luger Forum?

I was collecting TR period pistols myself as an adjunct to my Luftwaffe collection and after getting badly burned a couple of times -- including by a Board member of one of the automatic pistol associations -- I left collecting. There were enough thieves and crooks in militaria to keep me busy protecting myself.

Today, in uniform, badge, and headgear collecting -- I prefer collector-to-collector deals, though I have a few dealers I work with. So I know what you mean. It's a sad state of affairs but one of those things you either tolerate and work hard to learn and be careful, or you leave the hobby.

My friend is frequently on GunBroker and has not been able to find anything satisfactory there. While not a Luger expert, he has been collecting firearms for a number of years and has an eye for detail.

They do come up on the estand. You just have to look. Usually they seem to come in "spurts" though.

The luger forum often has some on thier for sale section. Just go to www.lugerforum.com.

I won't recommend one over the other. I'll just state that I have purchased stuff from everyone listed except for Ralph Shadduck, and Bob Simpson. I have sold stuff to both Ralph and Bob though. I'll let you decide yourself. Prices will vary tremedously! Auction sites are another source, but are a crap-shoot.
