Is that markings on the chamber of the barrel? The slide and receiver markings are too blurry to make out what they are, but are not markings that would have been applied in the U.S. It has not been modified to a 1911A1. The pistol is a 1911 that has been through rebuild. The slide is not original to the pistol as it is lacking the MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY on the right side.

This is an all original example made in 1916. It is not a really minty example, but a hard one to find as only 4000 1911's were made in 1916.

        johnny,
        here is the other side
Photos are not mime. Chamber is also stamped with the same marking, seems like a crown with an 93 under. Could it be coming from belgiul?
. Owner said it has not been reblued and could be parkerized. I need to go and check

I'm not an expert about these, but, if I remember correctly, "AA" means that this gun was rebuilt/refurbished in Augusta Arsenal. But, as I said, I'm not into this kind of pistol and my sources may be incorrect.

I tried to put a better pic of the 93.
I said that it was partially modified in 1911 A1 as mainspring housing is arched instead of flat

The pistol remains what the receiver is. Changing a part to a 1911A1 does not make it modified to 1911A1. There was a proposal to modify all 1911 pistols to 1911A1 specifications, but in March of 1926 Ordnance issued the directive that any pistol below serial number 700000 would remain a 1911 and any pistol above serial number 700000 would be a 1911A1.
The pistol in question appears to have had a lot of metal removed, and has probably been refinished after the last U.S. arsenal rebuild. The slide is probably from a 1911A1 pistol also.

That is correct. Not all arsenal reworks were marked, but Augusta Arsenal (AA) seemed to mark all of theirs. Unless it has been refinished again after it left Augusta Arsenal, the AA will be struck through the finish, as the marking was not applied until the pistol had been rebuilt and passed inspection. The finish on the pistol now looks more blued than phosphate, but it may just be the photos.

Even though this pistol is marked MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY, by the ordnance directive of 1926 it is a 1911A1. Ordnance had requested improvements to the 1911 pistol, and in 1924 beginning with serial number 700001 the "Improved Model 1911" was manufactured by Colt. The major changes were the shorter trigger, longer grip safety, and finger cutouts in the frame.

I asked the owner, it is parkerized. Photo is not of the best quality!

I checked it today. Badly refurbished exemple, rusted under grip plates (quite uncommon on 1911 compared to a luger!), barrel was not original (modern) to the pistol, recoil spring changed.
bad condition for a part 1911
