    Quikie question needs answer

Hey gang. I just recently received my first deact. MP40. Don't have pictures here (at work) to post but a quick question: what is the difference between a old spec and new spec deact?

Mine has a plugged barrel but it still cocks and clicks. Bolt stays open until you pull the trigger - then she slams shut.

Anyways...been reading up on these deact.'s and hear a lot about old spec and new spec but I have no idea what the difference is.

Many thanks in advance for any info you can send my way!
    Cheers!

Old spec and new spec deact refers to the UK-standards of firearms deactivation, old spec being pre 1995 and new spec being post 1995. In short: old spec was a lot less obtrusive to the firearm with the main method of deactivation being welding the firing pin channel shut (or grinding a fixed pin off ) and torch cutting the underside of the barrel, fixing it permanently with a weld to the receiver and/or welding a solid rod into the barrel. Hence the weapon could be cocked and dry-fired and disassembled. There are some variations to old spec as well, MG34 and MG42 barrels can be removed on some early specimens but will be welded solid to the barrel shroud or receiver on most.

New spec though ... that's another story, what you basically have with a new spec firearm is a solid piece of welded metal, with no moving parts (trigger and bolt won't move, welded solid) and close to zip in terms of taking it apart.
