Looks to me like the gun is "brown" and the scope base has alot of the blue remaining. How could this be unless an unholy marriage took place.

The price should tell you it isnt correct or it would be gone already. Not trying to be a jerk, just saying.

Wow thats a nice rifle, Mauser rifles with matching numbers are extremely hard to find speacially the bolt. The reason why colors are different is because the scope was not made with the same metal. The browning of the metal is related to the heat used when forging the metal. this can be seen in some Luger pistols that turn kind of brownish purple,,,

Now i ask because there's something i dont get...

If it's a number matching rifle, why is there 2906 on the rifle and 2001 on the bolt?

              Thanks in advance

I personally think it is an enhanced bolt-mismatch. I am not an expert by any means, but this rifle just does not give me good vibes....

It's got one of those rear sight adapters on it. It's a sanded stock bolt mismatch priced pretty high for what it is.

I agree with Mike. It's a MM bolt, and the scope mount is one of the later rear sight adaptors on it. That's also why the finish doesn't match either.

I'd say price is a bit high as well for it. I would expect it to go for $1200 or so?

The Zf41 is the easiest of the German "snipers" to be faked.....Having said that, you would be better off paying a little more for an unmolested original.....They're out there, but as already stated, they won't go for $1750.....Bodes

I agree fully with the 4 or 5 posts above. I would also suggest that it is a huge stretch to call a ZF41 (even an original one which this is not) a SNIPER rifle. School trained snipers did not use these to my understanding and I would go further and say that any German soldier using one of these set ups for extensive sharpshooting would not last long due to the tremendous disadvantage that they would encounter from Soviet or Western allied counter snipers.

To each his own as to what they collect and assign high value to, but for me these ZF41s have almost no connection to true German sniper weapons.

If a matching and original ZF41 set up is valued at 4k or so (I think that is ballpark?) then an original Turret or LSR should be valued at 15-20k....it is that much of an importance and rarity difference between the two classes of weapons IMO.

I'm not sure that I understand the question.

The ZF41 scope was a low power (around 1.5X I think) long eye relief mounting set up that was designed for mass production and easy factory manufacturing. It was adopted to provide some enhanced optic capability to the better shots in combat units on a wider scale than was available from true snipers, who were generally in short supply.

I think that their success was somewhat of a mixed bag....with the overall performance being a disappointment. Some shooters could hit some targets some of the time with it, but it did not prove to be a weapon that made every shooter a sniper.
