I'm not so sure a ban on deacts can easily come into force in the UK. There was a piece of EU legislation enacted in the late 90's which legislated for the lawful keeping of deacts, and set out a framework for an acceptable manner of deactivation. Most countries, including the UK, signed up to this so in order to ban deacts then the UK would have to act outside of that legislation. Not impossible I know, but thats IMHO.

There were one or two countries which claimed exemptions under that EU legislation, Ireland being one of them. Here we have the ludicrous situation based on a literal interpretation of an old law which states that a component of a firearm is classed as a firearm in its own right. Deacts were classed as firearms because they were made up of components of firearms. To be fair, when the EU law was enacted a workaround became available where the local police can provide you with a letter allowing you to keep deacts. This letter is almost impossible to get and is accompanied by strict rules as to the security of their storage. This situation is not likely to change.

      to be honest eric

neither do i , and my previous posts just outline how the govenment could be reasonable if the nuce had to be tightened , 9milis , mp5s , etc was a wise move , BUT , my only problem with it is , a normal decent man will never be able to fire one of these now in the uk , keep them out of our homes I AGREE , keep them of our streets NO PROBLEM , but what about offering the decent man a place to go to have ago with one of these , like i was talking about earlyer , this would have been a great sanction ,instead its like being back in the playground , a few bad eggs, and all the school goes without sweets

so I wonder how long it will be!!!!!!!!!

          Hi Jack,

I must say it is very good to see someone flying the flag.

And what a fantastic idea to have marshalled indoor ranges, i would not be able to get down to my local one fast enough.
But sadly it will never happen.

With all the bad headlines and hype anything to do with shooting is now taboo and the general public regard us as freaks. So there would be no funds for such an enterprise.
It would create quite a few jobs though, and make life easier for the British shooting team, i am sure.
And we certanly could not expect any help from the lottery coffers, that goes to asylum/imigration support groups.

It's nice to dream though........."Just going down to the range to fire my Lugers dear, see you later"

I am supprised Merdock has not come back on this thread, see the first couple of pages.........

          Best regards,

          Steve.

Well Jack, if controlled firing ranges were opened up like you say then I will be spending as many weekends in the UK as possible provided I can get membership. Sadly though I think its a bit of a pie in the sky but you may as well dream here as in bed
