Fake Police marked P38!

Wanted to post this up for everyone to see here. It was spotted on gunbroker, and confirmed by Ron and Orv over on the P38 forum.
This was posted by Orv, and I'll pin this thread for everyone.

This phony E/K has surfaced again. It was reported in 2002 2007 and 2009. It has all the normal military stamps plus the two phony stamps..see photos attached.

The Buy it now price is $3499!

The P38 was pulled off of gunbroker, and the dealer did contact Ron about it.
The dealer stated the following warning on the Luger forum:

WARNING! The following P-38 BYF 44 sr# 3523 x "E/K" has been identified as a counterfeit E/K. It's a common Waffen-accepted-stamped BYF 44 that's been altered w/an 'Eagle over N' stamp and an 'Eagle over circled X' stamp that's being represented as an authentic E/K P-38.

Recently [01/22/2010] we [Scotties Guns & Militaria, Denver, Co] came into possession of this counterfeit 'E/K', and believing it was authentic, we listed it on Gun Broker.com. Fortunatly for all, a sharp-eyed GB viewer recognized it and contacted us. We immediatly removed it from the GunBroker site.

We then contacted Orvel Reichert [P-38 researcher and contributor to; [P-38, Buxton Vol.II] and Ron Clarin [Co-author of "The P-38 Pistol, Spreewerk Production] and they were extremely helpful/knowledgeable on this matter and this fraudulent 'E/K'. A special thanks to both of them. This P-38 "E/K" has been in circulation for the past 10 yrs. or so, and resurfaces from time-to-time.

We are in the process of returning this fakery to the person we received it from, however once it leaves our possession, we no longwer have control where it goes or how it will be represented.

Our purpose in posting this WARNING! on this Forum is to publicly expose this fraudulent P-38 and hopefully make it 'toxic' enough that it will force it off the market and out of circulation.


I'd like to thank the dealer for removing the item from gunbroker, and issuing this warning to all collectors. It shows that they clearly stand behind their word. Tough to find these days.

This thread will be pinned here, as a reminder in case this P38 ever shows up again.

after looking at this long and hard it looks too goood in the finnish department to be genuine 44 production,its tooo crisp and the way its milled particulary on the slide looks wrong,but thats just my opinion!

I would like to see a side-by-side comparison of an original Police-marked EN/EK pistol with this one. I have been wondering for a while now if there are stamps being made to replicate the WW2 Nazi proof stamps on firearms. I know for a fact the are stamps being made to replicate US proofs that existed on M1 Garand and M1 Carbine stocks. Some of those stamps actually go up for sale on E-Bay or are sold by Numrich. But they are stamps that stamp into wood. The P-38 stamps would have to be made to stamp into metal. Forged metal at that.

These stamps(E/K &E/C) have been around for years. Also K-marine marked
P-38's have been seen by me in person. At a small Atlanta Military Show some
years ago there was not 1 K/M P-38, but 2 in a 100 table show. Both CYQ and
both out of the same area in Floridia(Jacksonville). CAVET!!
