    MP40 Question

I've been contacted by the son of a vet who has an MP-40 marked AYF42 which was registered in 1968 under a form 4467. I've got a couple class 3 weapons already and would love to acquire this one. My question is when is the last time any of you guys saw one of these actually change hands and in that exchange how much did it sell for?? In other words, whats a fair price? I have no photos yet, but working on it. Thanks, Alex

Wow, I love these kinds of stories! We all hope for these lucky opportunities!

An amnesty C&R ayf42 MP40 with an original, unmolested finish and in good condition would realize between $9,500 and $14,000 in today's market. Condition is everything and it would have to be completely mint and matching to bring anywhere close to $14,000. Sale prices for average C&R MP40s is more in the $11,000 to $11,500 range right now.

Accessories will add more. Bringback papers will add more. A dewat/rewat history will subtract value. The amnesty history makes for a cool story, but I'm not sure it really would add to the value of a C&R MP40.

Thanks Cincy, I'm looking forward to seeing it and I think this guy is just ready to get rid of it if I make a reasonable offer. I'll take photos and post them when I can as it may be a couple weeks. Alex

Did you have an advertisement stating you were looking for these types of weapons or what? Just curious as to how he contacted you (I may have to try it ).

I advertise a bit, but I think this was by word of mouth on this piece. I've been buying so long that I get a lot of calls from people who say that so & so gave me your number as I pay finders fees as well. You give someone a C note after they hook you up with a deal and they'll go beat the bushes!! There are little tricks I've learned over the years that bring in stuff. Alex
