    value of k98

I have a couple of k98 I am thinking of selling. ebay wont take guns, how would you guys sug. to sell them? do I need a ffl dealer in the us?

It is my understanding that a private sale between two individuals, as long as both are legally able to own the firearm by both state and Federal law, does not require an FFL. Try posting them on the e-stand here on the forum,

    Johnnie

      gun laws

I think it depends on the state law--in California, for example, I believe it's now technically illegal to buy any firearm, including rifles and shotguns, without going through a dealer. The reason for this is that the state requires a fee ($20.00 I think) per firearm purchased to add to California's coffers. They also require that you take a written test before you can take possession of each firearm after the waiting period.

I believe the previous post is incorrect. It used to be that private party rifle sales were acceptable. However now sales must conform to all state and federal law. Normally the gun can be shipped to an FFL dealer and he will conduct the transfer and needed background checks. The dealer normally charges a fee, in California it's about 25.00.

I know for sure in California it is a violation of the penal code to tranfer a firearm in a private party sale. It is not a very complicated process, I have purchased and sold firearms through a licensed dealer.

It is perfectly fine to sell firearms without going through a dealer (using his 01 ffl) you as a seller only needs to obtain the buyers ffl (on a 98k you can take a 01 ffl or a c&r 03 ffl) as another post mentioned you must follow state law & several states are problematic (California, NJ & MA for sure are a pain to deal with...) for more information:

As for selling rifles, many sites offer such services (perhaps here?) but imo for top prices I would suggest Auction Arms or Gunbroker:

Further, all the links I posted have FAQ pages- just take a few minutes to review them... on AA & GB most buyers know their situation for the state they live in, at least by my experiences.

In most states private sales between persons residing in the same state are legal with no paperwork involved. The People's Republic of California and a few North Eastern states are more complicated. Sales in ALL cases to a person in another state must pass through a FFL holder, either Class 1 or Curio Relics.

                Thanks David,
I forgot to mention the interstate issue. I was thinking in terms of both parties residing in the same state. I stand corrected,

                  K98

I think if you posteed them on the forum you would be able not only to find buyers but also parties able to provide FFL's or C&R's.

In addition your fee's would be "Zero", thats kind of nice!

                      k98

I am still going to join as I have may medals and badges to sell. but I did sell the k98 over the internet, I got 175 each, I think that is fair for mismatched , import marked rifles in 40% condtion. I mean no missing major parts but well battle used, and missing cleaning rod. very shootable. and all waffen stamps and eagle over swastika. opinions please. did I do ok or did I loose money? I also sold a m1 garand in 50% condtion for 475 made by winchester and a m1 carbine in the same cond. for 325, both with import marks. any opins. helpfull. thanks

Fair prices you could have gotten perhaps $25-$40 more per on the guns but money in the hand when needed is the rule to live by.

Robert is correct. Put them on estand. I'm sure they will sell. There are several K98 collectors here who would probably be very interested.
