    British Sniper rifle??

I was over my grandfathers and I went through some of his stuff. Snapped some pics of this rifle. He says he bought it in the 60's as a canadian made british sniper rifle from WWII. Is it what he thinks and is it worth anything?

    Thanks
    Erik

On the left side of the receiver, if it was a WW2 sniper there would be 2 scope mounts. One at the front of the receiver, and one at the back. Looks like someone juist added the cheek pad. The stock was also not cut the way this one is in WW2. After WW2 the british made a sniper that had a cut stock, but still used the same scope mount system. I do not beleive this to be a real sniper. If you could post a clear photo of the left side of the receiver that would show where the mounts were if they ever were there.
          Sorry...

The mounts would have been srcewed and welded on, I do not see any sign they were ever there.

Bringing this up from long ago. I was wondering if anyone knew what model and by who it was used?

                  Thanks

                    Hi Elvis,

this is a sporterized Enfield nr.4 mk 1 that someone has added the sniper cheek piece on. No evidence of ever being a sniper rifle. After ww2 the british switched from the nr.4 mk.1 (T) sniper rifle to the L42a1 which looks a lot like a sporterized enfield because of the cut down in the front stock and short handguard. these rifles utilized a heavy barrel. By the way a lot of ww2 sniper conversions were done by the famous holland and holland makers. they stamped the stock with their wartime code s51. Hope this helps.
