    Remington Rand 1911 Opinions

    Hey guys,
I have been looking at a 1943 Remington Rand 1911 here locally.

Here are a couple pictures that were sent. I feel it has been refurbished, but I am no expert on these. Plus the arsenal marking on the back right side of the frame is half gone. What do you guys think?

Sorry for the second picture. He was supposed to send me a couple more, but I have yet to receive them.

    Thank you for your opinions!!

    Mud,
Closeups of the frame would be helpful. Also, if the seller has pictures of the gun disassembled, especially ones of the markings on the barrel. Usually the barrel was the first thing changed, not necessarily done at a arsenal, but as a field replacement.

Take a good hard look at the shooters left hand side and look closely at the inspectors stamp. If it has NOT been arsenal rebuilt, you should see bare metal on the markings as this process was done AFTER the pistol was built, parkerized, and final inspected.

The ordnance wheel is almost always like that. They were lightly stamped into the metal on almost everyone that I have ever held in hand. This process was done by hand with a metal stamp and was tough to get a perfect "wheel" placed onto the metal.

The slide stop is from a 1911.

It looks refinished to me. Hard to be certain without looking at it apart and up close at the markings.

I'd agree: the slide stop does not appear to be the same finish: it looks blued, but frankly, I can't tell if it's from a commercial or military model without a close up. The greener appearance of this parkerization leads me to tentatively suggest that's a re-parkerized parts gun....

                  Thanks for the reply's guys.

It is my understanding that parts such as the slide stop, hammer, and safety were all blued parts. Earlier models were DULITE (blued over sandblasting) while the later models were parked.

I know for a fact that the feed ramps on these were done after the pistol was parked and he has told me that it is in the white. I was however not too sure about which stampings were to be in the white as well. Is it only the FJA inspector stamp that should be in the white?

I have still not seen this gun up close and personal. I am trying to arrange a meeting with him as he is about 100 miles from me.

the parts that you stated that would be DULITE blued were parked in that serial range, the dulite process by that pistols time frame of manufacture was well discontinued and yes you are correct that the feed ramp should be in the white, however that can be induced too. take a jewellers loupe with you and look at the final inspection marking under the loupe ( FJA marking and Cross Cannons stamp) if they are not burnished ( in the white) within the stampings it has been redone; as those markings were stamped after the final finish was applied. best of luck and best regards
