I can see that they are made of some kind of soft material like polyethylene.
But all the muzzle protection caps that I have seen as batllefield finds are black. I have never seen this greenish type.
And to learn what gun they are for, we should know the internal diameter. Caps for G43 and K98 are 14 mm and caps for MP40 are 18 mm.

Looks like MP40, I would be hesitant to try fitting one to the muzzle as they tend to shrink and become less pliable after many years in the ground. When they were new they would have been a nice snug fit.
I was given some the same grey/green colouring for MP40 MG34/42 and K98 that came from excavations in Russia some time ago and have no reason to doubt their originality

different shot
Maybe it isnt bakelite...here is how this one was found tied with a string. See if its similar.
It sure seems close , color, size lip..ridge ring on the bottom edge. The one looks period i would say. This one was brought home as is. this one has a slight crack , seen in photo. The other....possibly a smaller weapon such as suggested.Heck it must be an optical illusion, as they seem the same size to me. Whats their comparison ID's. Possibly both good, different versions/maker?Last edited by juoneen; 01-13-2010, 10:29 PM.
