    help with a luger

I recently inhereted a box of old war items, in it were two Lugers and a P-38. One of the Lugers is a DWM 1916. On this Luger, the toggle is in the "up" position, obviously held there by a hold open mechanism. I've tried to get it back down to the down position and can't . Obviously I'm missing something. Can any of you guys help me out? Thanks so much.

You need to take the magazine out of the pistol first. Then pull back the toggle and it will go down in its original pisito\ion (but cocked!).
If it doesn't work, then it probably needs some oil.

Thank you for your reply. Is the magazine release the checkered button at the trigger guard? That must be the problem, it won't budge, I'll oil it & wait a while.

      again, thank you sir

Yes, it is that one. Remove the grips (you can easily do it by removing the pair of screws at the low end of the grips). It will allow you to pour more oil in the magazine catch.

Just be careful upon the removal of the wood grips as the left plaque tends to chip under the safety lever.
