    G.43 Assault Rifles.

    Hi,
I have been offered a G.43 assault rifle which I am interested in purchasing. Unfortunately it is a type of gun which I know nothing about, and even less on the G.43 varients such as the G.43 k which I believe is the type I might be going to buy. So I am hoping that some kind person who has great knoledge and experience can give me a run down on what I should be looking for and if possible let me see some photo's as I really am in the dark here (so why am I buying something I know nothing about?) I guess because I like the idea of using it on the range....but I want to be sure of what I am buying.
Any assistance will be gratefully appreciated, and if anyone knows what the price for this sort of weapon is that would help as well. I look forward to hearing from one of you weapon experts. Please email me directly if you like at damienhorn@jerseymail.co.uk
I truly need help as until 3 days ago I had never even thought about such a gun until someone said "Do you fancy a working G.43"
    Thanks,
    Damien Horn.

Darrin has written a book called "Hitler's Garand". If you can find it it would really help you out. Some things to look for

      1. Like all German weapons, is it matching.
      2. Has the stock been sanded. It also should be numbered to gun.
      3. Does it have a scope and mount?
      4. Who is mfg.
      5. What is the date.

Since the book has come out prices have REALLY gone up. $800 up for a mis-matched. $2,000 up for a matched nice condition one. A scoped one with real mount up to about $3,500. If you have any specific questions post them here as it may help others. I'll try to post phots tonight.

G43s are interesting collectables but are really quite fragile for a combat rifle. The gas system is not regulated and they tend to break due to the powerful 8mm round and the questionable wartime materials and workmanship. I have seen them with mashed gas rods and springs as well as broken receivers, bolts and locking lugs. Shooting them is really a labor of love and possible hazardous to your health, not to mention the risk of breaking a valuable collectable.

If you just want a shooter I would look for an early war K.98 that would be safer and more reliable.<O

Tankdriver is correct. Even if you know next to nothing about a weapon, you can still stick with the basics to help you in purchasing something: such as the items that tankdriver just listed above along with these:

            -Condition of bore.
            -Condition of finish.
            -Condition of wood.
            -any import markings?
-accessories such as cleaning rod, sight hood, sling?
            -original magazine?

These are some very important things to consider.

            Matt
