    1942 Colt 1911 Question

    Hey guys,
I am looking at a 1942 Colt 1911 that a gentleman is selling locally. He sent me a couple pictures and I am just not sure about it. What is the deal with the rear site? It doesn't look like the standard fixed rear site I have seen in the past. I am by far not an expert on these, so any info you guys could dig up just by seeing these two pictures would be of great help to me.
    Thanks!!

    Hi

The sight is a recent (post war) add on and is not correct for this gun.
Not sure of the finish either. Sure would like to have that baby in hand parkerizing is difficult to tell the vintage from photos, right now I would say 50/50.
    Mag is a refinished 19111.
The slide should be numbered to the gun for a 1942 Colt.
    IMO Jimmy

Thanks for the reply! I think I am going to walk away from this one. The guy won't give a price and I am just not comfortable with the whole deal.

      Thanks again!

the rear sight can be replaced IF they didn't modifiy the dove tail slot to fit that rear sight, but the correct U notch rear sight will be hard to find but one can be obtained off of the Argentine type Colt copies. the slide should be serial to the frame. i don't blame you for walking on it the seller sounds as if hes playing games with you.

          1911 a1

I am shopping for a 1911 A1. I went to a site that lists the serial numbers that correspond to the maker. Here in SoCal a 1916 colt frame with a remington slide is retail priced at $900. Add gunlock, DOJ and sales tax. Another store had a correct frame with a Remington slide for $1495. Another colt slide with correct frame was for sale for $1495.
When I was active duty USMC, one of my issued pistols was a US&S. I never considered comparing the frame serial number to the slide until I joined this forum. Live and learn.
