proper correct sniper scope setups

i am intersted in exactly what constitutes a proper nazi sniper. i know or think i know that the scope numbers and the mount numbers should match. i am unsure as to whether the scope should match the rifle numbers. i think i know the scope has to be made before the war or during the war and not necessarily a military issue as many commercial aka private scopes were drafted into military service . i have a borginswald 1941 k98. if adding a scope to it and i wanted it to be period correct what would be in fact correct? i am also underinformed about side mount double claw mounting stuff. any good web sites you could suggest for a very interested gun guy that has no tolerance for fakes and incorrect crap. thanks in advance.

First off - hopefully you are not considering to butcher a period original rifle to make it something it never was i.e. a sniper. Not only would this destroy collectors value it would destroy history. Suggest a Russian Capture for such a project.

Second - given the year/code of your rifle a short side rail (SSR) system is the best possible choice.

Third - although commercial mounts and scopes were emplyed by the military certain patterns have appeared on legitimate examples relative to their use.

no! don't ruin a decent original with this. find a cheap Russian capture or a piece together rifle like i have.

I agree with others that you definately don't want to do this to an original matching rifle! I used a MM Russian capture gun when I did it, and commercial double claw mounts and 4x scope. It turned out great, but be prepared to spend $$$ for it. I spent over $1K on mine (that's rifle, scope, mounts, and gunsmithing fees to do it). That was almost 10 years ago, so I'm sure you'll end up paying even more today.

it depends. you have any leads on a modern scope that looks like an old ziess or ajack?

No, I went with an original commercial 4x scope. A modern scope would ruin the correct "look" that you want for it. I got my commerical scope and mounts for about $600 I believe, but like I said, that was several years ago.
