    MG 08/15 question

I've noticed some beautiful MG 08/15s posted on the forum and was wondering what does the ATF consider a demilled and legal MG 08?

      Thank you Norman!
So, basically the left side of the receive would have to be cut out which explains why you see generally only see them displayed from the side.

I believe so. My 08/15 had it's original plate, all of the rewats I've seen had replaced plates. The rivets on the replaced plate did not have the fine finish of the originals. It appeared as if the original rivets were drilled out for the dewatting of the guns. Hope this helps. Study the rules and you will probably be ok....

The 08/15 is classified as a Curio and Relic and can be acquired by licensed C & R FFL holders either live or dewat, depending on your state laws.

Interesting! This is way outside my area of interest but I love seeing them and am surprised at how many seem to be around. I was offered one just before Christmas for next to nothing that was pulled out of an attic where I assume it's been since 1918. Apart from not having the space and not wanting to go to prison I passed but it did stir up my curiosity!

It's a pity, I have a feeling that it'll probably end up being chopped up.

                  Your attic find

In this instance most individuals strip the item down and sell off all the parts, leaving the main body either in the hands of an authorised dealer or as you say sadly destroyed. It is a great shame and it always suprises me how inflexible some systems are - even if it was donated to a museum. I have one excellent official contact if Blinky you want to speak to him offline.
