I have just read where the US military is facing a tightening of ammunition supplies due to the demands created by the events since 9-11.
The US has its current manufacturing facility working 24-7 making ammo. It's not enough. Contracts have been let to IMI and Olin Winchester to produce a total of 70 million rounds. Production is slated to start this June.
What does this mean to civilian shooters. Difficult to say. It will depend on a number of things. If we begin to hoard, watch the availability of ammo, especially 9mm and .223 become tight. Components also are susceptable to tight supply. Primers, cases, and bullets could see price increases.
We have only to cast our minds back to the mid to late 90's to see what a mildly tight supply can do to price and availability.
There are a lot of might be's, could be's here.
Those of us on this board who shoot our pistols and rifles should keep an eye on this situation.
