A lot of MG42 fakes around...

Since the beginning of 2008 I observe the German and European "MG42 market" (all deactivated MG53). I have located a lot of fakes which are converted Yugoslav MG53. First I saw a lot of MG42 fakes on the German market, thereafter also in France, Russia and also in the UK now.

Here are some special links, make your own opinion:

I did also a little MG42 receiver study. If you want a pdf with the conclusion, send me your email-address:

The mg42 receiver study is amazing and super helpful to identify the real and original pieces .
Its the same problem with the fake mp38 receivers or magazine holders which appear from time to time . I have the feeling that this is only the beginning of the fake mass production , so its high time for the collector to buy , to own and to hold the rare original pieces for the next 40 years . Perhaps even 50 years

                            Fake MG42

                            Hi,
Had a look on the fake one for sale and the MG53 foresight mount is quite noticeable.
When you consider the work involved in machining off the Yugo markings and setting up and cutting new serial numbers etc. they must get them cheap! Also they're removing the original machining marks as well which is another clue.
It's very good to have this knowledge passed around.
I did notice the button to remove the mainspring etc. was a "bpr" though!
                            Keep up the good work.
