Hey guys, a little help with this one. Got it in a group of stuff a couple weeks ago. It needs a little internal work as the slide flops back and forth maybe a half an inch, but it is pretty clean other than that. Normal use and wear. What part would cause the slde to flop back and forth a half an inch? All matching numbers with no clip. Any ideas on value as I will probably move it on Estand at a very fair price? thanks for the help!! Alex

when you say flops back and fourth 1/2 an inch , are you referring to the toggle going up and down, instead of staying down when you turn it upside down? If thats what you mean, it could have been assembled incorrectly after being dissassembled for cleaning. the little curved T hook must be in the correct position when the slide is slid back in the frame groove prior to assembly. Thats what i think possibly could be the problem. Did you dissassemble it ever yet to check the parts?It appears the gun has been refinished to me. (a good shooter.)Comment

Does it have any unit mark on the front of the grip strap?
I'm asking this because this Luger was once fitted with a sear safety and a magazine safety - both features typical of late Weimar and Third Reich Police reissued Lugers. Both safeties were removed.
Tough to say if the finish is original or not from the pictures. If original looks like to be worn.
Concerning the "flopping" issue, juoneen already gave you the tip - I bet that the gun was not correctly reassembled but this can easily be "fixed".

I believe the slide is assembled with the gun held upside down till the curved t bar end is past the double inside rails, then turned over to allow it to drop in place , then finished to slide together wich puts tension on the t bar with the rails inside. Im sure someone in your area in a gun store can show you if you are confused. It isnt really rocket science.Once you do it correctly you'll understand.Comment

The flopping I'm talking about is this. You can hold the muzzle end of the barrel and it has about a half inch of play in the whole top slide. As far as refinished it has not been, too much wear. And no there are no unit markings that I can see. thanks, AlexComment

There is an excellent video on you tube that shows you exactly how to dissasssemble the luger and the trick to reassemling. If that doesn't cure it take it to a gunsmith and ask for an opinion and estimate. Be careful if he wants to go replacing parts as you would lose matching numbers of course. Collectable is numbers and matching, a proper functioning pistol is going off in a different direction, these are getting to expensive to shoot now anyway. I think i'd rather have a matching number authentic finish collectable than a working mismatched shooter. I was scared to take mine apart till i saw that video. It was really easy despite my terrible eyesight. No little thingys came flying out at all. Good luckComment
