Luger box

Hello all,

a friend has offered me this P08 box, he has told me that this one was used only by the marine, but not for the Kriegsmarine, only by the handelsmarine. If this is right why it has the waffenamt?

If it's an original one what would be a fair value for it.

Any help would be great.

Your friend is right. It is a box that held a P08 and holster that was carried on board merchant ships. I imagine that it has a Waffenamt as it would have been issued by the military. It probably has something to do with merchant ships becoming auxilliary cruisers during time of war.

I have never seen one for sale so I can give you no accurate estimate as to value. I would imagine a thousand dollars or more to the right collector.
